Individual Therapy for:

Jake Pierce-Walsh, MSW, LCSW of JPW Counseling provides individual therapy for anxiety to clients in College Station, Texas for anxiety, depression, trauma, addition, and relationship problems..
  • We all can be mean, critical, or cruel to ourselves sometimes, especially when stress is high. But when this becomes the usual way we talk to our self, it can make living very painful. How do we learn to accept and care for ourselves while at the same time feeling like we’re still being honest and true to our values? It is possible. I help people figure out how to turn down or turn off their critical voice and at the same time feel like they’re being honest with themselves and achieving their goals.

  • Emotions are complicated. We can be fine one minute, and a wreck the next. Or we may not even know how we feel, but still not feel right. Whether you can’t stop feeling flooded by your emotions or you can’t seem to find them, I help people learn how to find and feel their emotions without getting overwhelmed, so you can feel connected with your life and relationships, but still not be ruled by your emotions.

  • Past painful experiences can suddenly show up in the present. When this happens it can feel confusing, disorienting, and scary. If this happens a lot, life can become unmanageable. These experiences are sometimes indications of past unresolved trauma. This just means that at one point something happened that was too overwhelming to feel so your brain pushed it aside to help you keep going. And yet at the same time your body wants to heal and so it brings this pain back up to try and heal. But if we don’t know what to do, it can just feel bad all over again. I help people resolve and heal past pain so they can stop having intrusive experiences and feel like the past is finally over.

Jake Pierce-Walsh, MSW, LCSW of JPW Counseling provides counseling for depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, and relationship problems in College Station, Texas and online in Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, and Texas.
  • Being anxious or nervous can feel terrible. But being this way most of the time can feel debilitating and hopeless. We try to tell ourselves to just relax, that everything’s okay, but it doesn’t seem to touch our body’s experience. Whether you experience a rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, persistent sweating, uncontrollable shaking, racing thoughts, dizziness, spacey-ness, or all of the above, I help people learn to work with their body’s experience, so you can actually calm down and feel grounded again.

  • Relationships are challenging. But when it feels like all you experience are challenges, or the same challenges over and over again, it’s easy to ask yourself, “What’s the point?” We want to make things better, but we often don’t know what to do. Whether you keep finding yourself in relationships that don’t work or stuck in the same issue(s) with your current relationship, I help people learn to work with their relationship challenges differently so they can enjoy their relationship and also feel competent as challenges arise.

  • Who am I? It’s perhaps the question that everyone asks themselves at one point or another. But when you don’t have an answer or the answer doesn’t match who you or others think you should be, it can feel frustrating, confusing, and even depressing. How do we know who we are? Or, perhaps more importantly, how do we give ourselves permission to be who we are when that means risking rejection. I help people learn to connect with their own honesty and truth so they can discover who they are and who they want to be at their own pace.

Jake Pierce-Walsh, MSW, LCSW provides individual therapy and counseling for depression, panic, obsessive compulsive disorder, substance abuse, and marriage problems for clients in College Station, Texas.
  • We all enjoy what we enjoy, but when we end up using our pleasures to try and escape stress or pain, our pleasures can become a prison of craving and obsession. Compulsively thinking about when we can indulge next, while perhaps at the same time knowing we’re only digging ourselves deeper. I help people free themselves from their addiction-prisons. When we understand how the addiction is actually medicine for an underlying issue, we can focus on what’s driving the addiction and resolve it at its source.

  • Losing people in our lives can change us at the deepest levels. Whether we loved the person and miss them terribly, despised them and still can’t shake the anger, or even didn’t really know them but still feel impacted by the loss. Death has an impact though our society still struggles to talk about it in real or helpful ways. I help people feel the impact of their loss(es) without getting overwhelmed by them so they can allow themselves to grieve within their own timing and readiness.

  • Life is full of choices and yet we can’t ever see with certainty where our choices might take us. And with so much uncertainty in general in the world, it can feel very overwhelming. Add to this, perhaps not even knowing what you want or how to decide. I help people learn to connect with their own values, intuition, and wisdom so you can stop feeling like a victim to life, and instead find the way that feels right to you.

Personal Background

I was raised on the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth, MN. With only a handful of neighbors my age, I spent lots of time immersed in nature, hiking in the woods behind my home, or on the rocky beach of the great lake, or up the rivers that fed it.

Growing up, I was interested in music, ideas, and people. I found my place playing the drums in various high school bands as well as my own rock band.

With an adventurous spirit, I initially struggled to find a career path that felt right. And so, I swung hammers, bussed tables, and traveled and wrote in my free time.

But when a therapist I had been seeing suggested I would be good at being a therapist, myself, things started to click. I found my place in work that continues to feel profoundly exciting and meaningful.

Today, I still enjoy music, nature, writing, and hiking. Playing the drums has given way to the ukulele (easier for the kiddos to seep through). I absolutely love spending time with my family; they continue to teach me so much everyday.

I am a father, a husband, a son, a brother, a friend, a writer, a teacher, a forever-student, and a therapist.
